INDIA STUDIES CENTER

India Studies Center was the idea initiated by His Excellency Mr. A. N. Ram, Former Ambassador of India to Thailand and Associate Professor Noranit Setabutr, Former Rector of Thammasat University. Eventually, the center was inaugurated by His Excellency Mr. P.V. Narasimha Rao, the 9th Prime Minister of India during his official visit to Thailand back in 1993. Its main purpose is to promote the knowledge of Indian Studies and foster friendly relations and cooperation between Thais and Indians

OBJECTIVES & MISSIONS
  • To promote research and studies on various respects of India (culture, history, economy, politics, philosophy and literature)
  • To provide forum for scholars of Indian Studies to exchange their knowledge and research as well as present their works to the public in form of lectures, panel discussions, seminars, symposia and conferences
  • To publish research works, studies and academic papers in the form of books, journals and newsletters to promote the knowledge of Indian Studies and to create better understanding between India and Thailand
  • To encourage academic and cultural exchange among scholars and students by establishing academic linkages between Thammasat University and Universities in Thailand
  • To cooperate and exchange publications with other centres and institution of similar nature
  • To make the data collection on India related topics
KEY ACTIVITIES & FOCUS
  • Enhancing Thai’s understanding of India by organizing public lectures on various aspects of Thailand - India relations and promoting India – Thai relation through collaboration with India Institutions and universities
  • Seeking to establish network and sourcing collaboration opportunities
  • Organizing a Panel on India Studies session at Thammasat Annual Academics and Postgraduate International Conference (TUCAPS)
  • Fostering institution – to – institution and people – to- people link through exchange of academics and students’ program
  • Conducting research for public and private agencies on both national and international level
